SEC Focus on Communication Compliance

No one ever thought that this era’s digital communication would be needed not only by the youth but everyone else as well, regardless of their age. When the COVID-19 pandemic started over two years ago, digital platforms, primarily used for self-expression and intimate communication, greatly aided the transition of traditional school, work, and business setups to online.

Organizations began to switch to online tools to continue their operations under remote collaboration setups. Since experts advised everyone across the globe to stay inside their homes, various businesses were given few options on how they could conduct their business operations. And one of them is to change their working environment and system to digital so that their employees can render work without leaving the safety of their homes.

Due to the increase of users relying on digital communications, the technology supporting these platforms continues to evolve, and regulatory bodies like the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) improved existing rules. They also added new ones, like monitor SMS, to cover hybrid working models and offer everyone a safe online working environment.

Since cyberhackers tend to be more tech-savvy nowadays, instant messaging applications like WhatsApp, WeChat, Signal, and Telegram, which are being used for work-related communications, might be at risk of breaches and data invasion. The new archiving system, which SEC and other organizations monitor, is one of the presumed effective solutions against cybercriminals.

As SEC and other organizations in different countries monitor the usage of modern communication technologies by various companies, they also keep an eye to see if everyone is complying with these new rules. It may be too strict for some eyes. Still, communication and text messaging compliance are just a few of what the new normal needs so that everyone using it, may it be the employers or employees, everyone will stay safe. At the same time, their private information and any company’s crucial files will be kept secured.
